BIOGRAPHY: Bevan de Wet
Bevan de Wet was born on 1 March 1985 at Johannesburg General Hospital to parents Andre and Kate de Wet. He grew up in and around Melville, as well as attended school at Melpark Primary School and Roosevelt High School. Throughout his schooling career, Bevan excelled at both art and technical drawing. After he matriculated with exemption, Bevan enrolled at Vega School of Brand Communications where he studied graphic design for a year before enrolling at Rhodes University.
At Rhodes, Bevan thrived in the printmaking department under the mentorship of Prof Dominic Thorburn. While still studying, Bevan’s art was sold successfully to private collectors and gallery owners throughout South Africa. In 2007, Bevan was one of 77 finalists in the Absa L’Atelier Art Competition.
Bevan has a keen interest in outreach and teaching projects, which he proved through his involvement with an underpriviledged school in Grahamstown in 2008. While taking weekly art classes with Archie Mbolekwa High School, Bevan found the time to assist in teaching both first and second year printmaking classes.
After completing his Fine Art degree with distinction, Bevan will travel to the East where he will teach English as a foreign language, as well as explore oriental printmaking techniques.
